Cluck And Purr--The 2010 Spring Turkey Report
The upcoming 2010 Spring Rio season seems like old times as the turkey count was up all over the ranch. Mother Nature
seems to have brought us back to our normal Saltfork expectations. Barring fires, hail and blizzards and other radical variances by Mother Nature, spring 2010 should be a very good year. We booked lighter than
normal during 2009 as we were unsure how the hot and dry year would impact our bird population. We still had good numbers of longbeards over most of our hunting areas even when the season ended.
These should be really good birds in 2010!
I spent more time watching birds this past deer season than I did hunting that elusive B&C buck! The birds were in large
gender groups with hens numbering well over a hundred.
The jakes were eating all the deer corn and it was a parade every time the feeders would cycle. We counted 43 longbeards in one flock up on the North property. I will try to post a few pictures once deer season has concluded.
Thanks to all of you who hunted with us this last season and we appreciate your selection Saltfork for your pursuit of a Texas
Rio! We hope that the rest of your 2009 turkey hunting went well and we look forward to seeing you again in 2010.
Think Longbeards,
Bruce and Larry
