Spring 2009 Oklahoma Wild Turkey Hunting
Season Dates; April 6- May 6, 2009
Saltfork Hunts continues to
hunt up over 5000 acres of prime Western Oklahoma Wild Turkey habitat for the 2008 Spring turkey season! The Western Oklahoma land is blessed with an abundance of Rio Grande turkeys.
Our 2007 deer hunters and 2008 spring turkey hunters reported seeing groups of birds exceeding 50 and 60 throughout the ranch every day with a large proportion of jakes. The combined Oklahoma ranches have has an estimated Rio turkey population of 3 to 4 hundred birds!
The ranch topography is characterized by rolling prairies, draws and dry washes, free flowing creeks and several large ponds. The terrain is covered with natural range grasses with several areas in
CRP.
Crops planted on the ranch include winter wheat and rye as well as food plots of millet there are numerous areas with large cottonwood trees and long shelterbelts that serve as major roosting areas. The Erick Oklahoma hunting area alone has over1000 acres of absolute perfect Rio habitat with a large river bottom, stands of scrub oak, open wheat fields and hundreds of mature gobblers.
The 2009 cost for spring Rio turkey hunting is $600.00 for a 3 day hunt. Two wild turkeys can be harvested per season and must be taken with either a bow or a shotgun. A total of only two gobblers may be
taken per hunter. Hunters may book from additional days as needed to meet their personal schedules at a rate of $200.00 per day. A deposit of 50% will be required at the time you book your hunt.
